What is Emotional Intelligence?
The theory is that we all possess emotional
intelligence. It is an essential part of our
being that can have an enormous impact on our
daily life. This theory also suggests that the
fundamental aspects of our emotional intelligence
is learnt when we are very young. If we miss
out on learning essential skills at this early
age, these became deficiencies when we are older.
The good news is that with the right knowledge
and support, emotional intelligence can continue
to grow and develop for your entire life. This
is where the emotional coaching program can assist
you.
What is Emotional Mapping?
When you go on a journey somewhere, even a small
journey, you often need a map to help guide you.
A fundamental difference with this program is
to take a good look around your emotional world,
mapping it out in as much detail as possible.
This information then guides the rest of our
work together, and because this information has
come from within you, a program specific to your
needs is created rather than trying to make you
fit the program. Further, we are starting from
where you are at, working from the inside out
to create more targeted, deeper and longer lasting
results.
What is the Emotional Alphabet?
Every emotion is made up of many different sensations
or parts. Anxiety is a good example. When you
feel anxiety you often notice your heart rate
will speed up and breathing will become shallow,
butterflies flit in your stomach, sweating increases,
muscles tighten and thoughts race. These sensations
are called the emotional alphabet and when you
get a number of them all together they spell
an emotion, in this case anxiety. This is where
you can be taught to notice and stay with your
emotional alphabet so you can identify your actual
feelings.
What is Emotional Fitness?
Now to stay with emotions and not avoid, run
away or suppress them, you have to develop emotional
fitness. Often people have very low emotional
fitness because they avoid emotions. When you
go to the gym for the first time (or after a
prolonged period of absence), it is very challenging
and you are sore the next day. However, with
persistence and skill you build fitness and then
your body can function better. You need to build
your emotional fitness in the same way so your
emotions will function better and you can use
them more positively.
What is Emotional Logic?
Have you ever said there is no logical reason
why I should feel this way, but there must
be because I am feeling that emotion? This
is difficult for many people because they
are using intellectual logic instead of emotional
logic to try to understand their emotions.
Emotional logic does exist and is different
to other forms of logic, but just as important.
When you understand emotional logic you can
start to use your emotions positively.
Why is it important to identify challenge and
confront thoughts and beliefs that are having
a negative impact on your emotions?
Sometimes negative thoughts or limiting beliefs
get in the way of using your emotions intelligently
and also inhibit the emotional coaching process.
Some examples of these may include, men don’t
cry, feeling fear is a weakness, anger is a negative
emotion, there is no logical reason why I should
feel this way, etc. If any of these negative
thoughts or beliefs is present Dean can help
you to transform these and change them to the
principles inherent in emotional coaching.
Helping
the head and heart to work as a team!
Many people find that they cannot use their
head and heart together, or that they can actually
work against each other. When you are confronted
with a challenging situation you need all your
resources to cope and get the best result. So
you are bound to get a better result if your
head and heart combine rather than compete with
each other. This is the final stage of the program.
